Risk of Foreign Material Prompts Recall

The recalled products were distributed in Alabama, Idaho, Illinois, Minnesota, Missouri, North Carolina, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Wisconsin.

Kent Precision Foods Group, Inc. of Muscatine, IA, is recalling Sqwincher Electrolyte Beverage Mix powder because of potential foreign material in the product, specifically metal. According to the details published online by the Food and Drugs Administration, the recall was initiated on Sept. 9, 2024 and is ongoing. In a letter sent to customers, Kent Precision Foods Group said that this recall is due to the potential presence of small aluminum pieces, 1mm – 4mm in size.

Consumers should not use this product. Recalled products should be thrown out or returned to their place of purchase.

The FDA is continuing to review sample results received from state partners who have been continuously sampling ground cinnamon at retail establishments for elevated levels of lead. We are updating this alert with an additional product, Asli brand ground cinnamon, that contains elevated levels of lead. Exposure to this product may be unsafe.

The recall applies to a limited number of 96 oz. plastic containers of refrigerated LACTAID Milk with the code 51-4109 P2 and the Best By Date listed in the chart below. The code and Best By Date can be found in the center-top area of the container, as pictured in the image below. This recall applies to only those products that contain the code 51-4109 P2 and the Best By Date specified in the chart viewable on the FDA website.

FDA Adds More Cinnamon Products to Lead Recall

More Ground Cinnamon Products Added to FDA Public Health Alert Due to Presence of Elevated Levels of Lead

The recall was updated on Aug. 30, 2024, and is ongoing.

The FDA is continuing to review sample results received from state partners who have been continuously sampling ground cinnamon at retail establishments for elevated levels of lead. We are updating this alert with an additional product, Asli brand ground cinnamon, that contains elevated levels of lead. Exposure to this product may be unsafe.

Based on FDA’s assessment, consuming these products could contribute to elevated levels of lead in the blood. Long-term exposure (months to years) to elevated levels of lead in the diet could contribute to adverse health effects, particularly for the portion of the population that may already have elevated blood lead levels from other exposures to lead. If you are concerned that you or anyone in your family may have symptoms of lead toxicity, the FDA recommends you contact your healthcare provider.

Great Value Apple Juice Recalled Due to High Arsenic Levels

The recall was initiated on Aug. 15, 2024, and is ongoing.

Refresco Beverages US Inc. is recalling 9,500 cases of Great Value; 8oz Apple Juice sold in packs of six because the product contains inorganic arsenic above the action level set in industry guidance. According to the details posted online by the Food and Drugs Administration, the recalled apple juice contains 13.2 parts per billion (ppb) of inorganic arsenic, which exceeds the FDA limit of 10 ppb.

The recalled product was distributed to retail locations in Alabama, Connecticut, the District of Columbia, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Michigan, Mississippi, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Vermont and West Virginia.

Salmonella Risk Prompts Recall of Al'Fez Natural Tahini

The recalled Tahini was distributed nationwide in retail stores beginning 05/26/23.

AB World Foods US, Inc. of Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois, is voluntarily recalling Al’Fez Natural Tahini in 5.6oz glass jars because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. The recalled Al’Fez Natural Tahini was distributed nationwide in retail stores beginning 05/26/23.

The potential for contamination was noted after testing by the company revealed the presence of Salmonella. The company has ceased distribution of the product as the company continues their investigation. To date, AB World Foods US, Inc. has received no reports of illness related to the recalled product from consumers in the United States.

Macadamia Nuts Recalled Over Listeria Contamination

The recalled product was distributed nationally in the U.S.

Andersen & Sons Shelling, Inc. of Vina, CA is recalling dry roasted macadamia nuts because of Listeria monocytogenes contamination. According to the details posted online by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the recall was initiated on May 16, 2024, and is ongoing.
Food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes may not look or smell spoiled but can still cause serious and sometimes life-threatening infections. Anyone who has eaten any of the recalled products and developed symptoms of Listeria infection should seek medical treatment and tell their doctors about possible Listeria exposure.

Tyson Foods Inc. Recalls Chicken Patty Product Due to Possible Foreign Matter Contamination

Tyson Foods, Inc. a Berryville, Ark., establishment, is recalling approximately 29,819 pounds of fully cooked, breaded, shaped chicken patty product that may be contaminated with extraneous materials, specifically metal pieces

The FDA is advising parents and caregivers not to buy or feed WanaBana apple cinnamon fruit puree pouches to children because the product may contain elevated levels of lead. Parents and caregivers of toddlers and young children who may have consumed WanaBana apple cinnamon fruit puree pouches should contact their child’s healthcare provider about getting a blood test.

Kraft Recalls Cheese Slices for Choking Hazard

Kraft Heinz Issues Voluntary Recall of Select Kraft Singles American Processed Cheese Slices

Kraft recalls cheese singles after consumers report choking on product

Kraft Heinz recalls 83,800 cases of individually wrapped Kraft Singles American processed cheese slices.

“The issue was discovered after the company received several consumer complaints about finding the plastic stuck to a slice, including six complaints of consumers saying they choked or gagged in connection with the issue. No injuries or serious health issues have been reported,” according to the company recall posted by the Food and Drug Administration.

The recall comes as a precaution after a temporary issue developed on one of our wrapping machines at the company’s production plant, making it possible that a thin strip of the individual film may remain on slices after the wrappers have been removed. If the film sticks to the slice and is not removed, it could cause a gagging or choking hazard.

Only Kraft Singles American processed cheese slices with the case/package information below are affected. No other varieties or sizes are included in the recall.

Kraft Heinz has fixed the machine that wrapped the affected slices, and all other processing machines have been thoroughly inspected.

Consumers who purchase these items should not consume them and can return them to the store where it was purchased for an exchange or refund. Consumers can contact Kraft Heinz at 800-280-8252 to see if a product is part of the recall and to receive reimbursement.

Products included in the recall are 16 oz. Kraft Singles American Pasteurized Prepared Cheese Product with an individual package UPC of 0 2100061526 1 and a “Best When Used By” date of 10 JAN 24 through 27 JAN 24. Individual packages in this recall will contain an S and 72 in the Manufacturing code.

Also included in the recall are 3-pound multipacks of Kraft Singles American Pasteurized Prepared Cheese Product with a carton UPC of 0 2100060491 3 and a “Best When Used By” of 09 JAN 2024 through 13 JAN 2024 and 16 JAN 2024.

Upcoming IDPH Activities at the Illinois State Fair

Free Immunizations, Physicals, Dental Exams to be Provided for School-Aged Children at State Fair

IDPH will also supply free gun locks during the fair in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) will provide a variety of health and safety services during the 2023 Illinois State Fair in Springfield, including free immunizations, physicals, and dental exams for school-aged children. IDPH will also give away gun locks as part of its ongoing partnership with the Illinois State Police (ISP) to promote firearms safety in the state.

The fair runs August 10-20 and IDPH staffers will be on hand each day of the fair at the IDPH tent on the east side of the Annex Building, in a booth at the Illinois Building, and in a booth at Conservation World. The tent and booths will be manned from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekends, during the fair.
